Dalle de Verre

Dalle de Verre is a lovely artistic form that adds instant color and personality to any room. This bold, eye-catching stained glass style uses thick slabs of faceted glass to refract light and color and has a similar aesthetic to mosaic and abstract compositions. We are proud to be the trusted Dalle de Verre experts in Colorado Springs, offering Dalle Glass restoration, repair, and design.

Dalle Glass is an abstract style of stained glass. The term “Dalle de Verre” comes from France and means “slabs of glass.” The glass used is much thicker than normal stained glass windows. The technique was originally created by Jean Gaudin in 1930, a famous Parisian artist who had a strong passion for mosaics.

The glass is shaped, then enhanced around the edges using a chisel and hammer. This produces a faceted aesthetic and helps the glass catch light from various angles. The perfected pieces are then arranged in a design on a bed of flat sand. Next, a mortar is produced by pouring epoxy onto the sand. More sand is added (often a darker color) to fill in the remaining spaces and give the composition a finished look.
