Church Stained Glass Restoration: The Rising Church

Church Stained Glass Restoration: The Rising Church

We’re excited to announce the completion of our church stained glass restoration this last month. The Rising Church located in Arvada, CO was built in 1913 and is celebrated for its homeless outreach. The small community church has original stained glass windows throughout. One night, someone walking by the church thought they heard a noise coming from inside. They decided to throw rocks through the windows to stop the commotion inside. Fortunately, there wasn’t anyone inside the church but the result was severely damaged windows.

Our Church Stained Glass Restoration Process and Challenges

We began with an on-site assessment of the damage. 90% of the windows had been vandalized so we brought these back to our studio for restoration. These panels were soaked for up to two weeks so we could take them apart easier and get all the dirt and grime off of them. We then cataloged all the glass that was in good condition and replaced the damaged pieces. In order to achieve a perfect color match, we used glass from our existing inventory and utilized custom glass manufacturing. The challenge with these windows is that we had to resize them. The original windows had lead missing in order to fit the original windows. We resized them properly and shaved some of the windows down on-site in order to create the right fit. Exterior protective polycarbonate was also created in order to deliver optimal protection. This was custom built with ventilation.
