Regardless of the religious sect or denomination, churches, temples, other sites of worship across the world all have one thing in common: they bring together members of the community. A church is much more than a place for worship; it’s a sacred place where people come to learn, feel connected to their God, receive guidance, and deepen their faith. They are safe harbors and places of peace.
Due to the vastly diverse demographic landscape of Colorado, Colorado Springs is home to a wide range of religious groups. Stunning examples of religious architecture and religious artwork can be found throughout the city. This includes many beautiful pieces of religious stained glass in Colorado Springs temples, mosques, synagogues, museums, and other sites of worship.

Manifesting the Stained Glass for the Fort Collins Colorado LDS Temple
Recently Scottish Stained Glass, our Centennial based office, was awarded the task of constructing the religious stained glass for the Fort Collins Colorado LDS Temple. We felt deeply honored to be given this immensely important assignment and therefore set out right away determined to be able to construct absolutely flawless stained glass windows, doors, sidelights, and transoms for the new temple.
Our Mission: Perfection in Every Aspect
Though we were incredibly excited for this opportunity, we knew that we had a lot of hard work before us. For the church, it was vastly important that the Temple be constructed in absolute perfection. Followers of the LDS faith believe that if a Temple is to be inhabited by the presence of God, it must be flawless in every aspect. Therefore, it was vital that our stained glass was constructed without a single defect in its integrity and appearance.
For two years, we worked closely with the members of the Church, the construction company, and other general contractors to ensure that the stained glass was produced with the highest level of quality. Of course, just as with any task of great importance, this meant that we had some challenges to overcome. Thankfully we had a highly skilled team and the full support of the Church to back us.
The first challenge was that we had to be able to create the glass windows without having the opportunity to take additional site measurements. This was due to the fact that the custom frames which they were to be installed into were being created at the exact same time as our windows. By working through a streamlined process and communicating openly throughout the project, we were able to overcome this obstacle.
In addition, the intrinsic nature of this job was unique due to the high level of customization for the stained glass. After pouring through 10,000 different stained glass colors, the Church was unable to find the exact color of green that they needed for the design of their windows. As a solution, we were able to create a custom color of stained glass to match the design needs. We were also able to build colored glass bevels for the windows and doors, a task which had been previously considered impossible.
Each piece of stained glass was constructed to provide the ultimate level of security, energy efficiency, and privacy while still allowing light to enter the building. To accomplish this, we placed a piece of Low-E safety glass on each piece of glass.
In the end, we ended up installing over 50,000 pieces of individual glass for the Fort Collins Colorado LDS Temple. This included about 300 complete stained glass pieces for doors, windows, sidelights, and transoms. A total of two years were spent on this project, 6 months of which were devoted to drafting the designs, and the other 18 focused on manufacturing and installing the glass. Though it was a long, intense process, the results were worth it in the end.
The Results: Flawless Stained Glass Art
After the installation of the religious stained glass was complete, it was time for inspection. Architects, designers, members of the Church, and other experts walked up and down the halls of the church, thoroughly inspecting everything for any sign of flaw or defect. After rounds of inspections, not a single flaw was identified in our stained glass. This was a truly incredible accomplishment for our staff.
When commenting on this project, our owner, Martin Faith, stated, “Due to the high quality of the construction, there’s no reason why a Temple like this shouldn’t be able to stand another thousand years. The stained glass will now be a part of the church history forever.”
